Kelsey Griest was born in Columbus, OH and resided there until 2018. Much of her artistic upbringing was shaped by both Columbus as well as Athens, OH. Kelsey is now a teaching artist currently working in the Athens area. Kelsey is a senior art therapy and painting and drawing BFA candidate at Ohio University. Kelsey specializes in special education arts teaching. She uses a variety of mediums in her work such as collage, painting, and embroidery. Kelsey currently works as a teaching artist at Ewing School in Marietta, OH where she teaches PreK to young adult students. She also has experience volunteering at Beacon School in Athens as well as volunteering at Passion Works, a collaborative art studio for community members with physical and developmental disabilities in Athens.
In Kelsey’s own artwork she mostly uses oil paint and acrylic paint along with embroidery to depict intense emotions from throughout her life. Despite her focus in painting techniques, Kelsey is deeply interested in using mixed media especially in her teaching so that students can learn the mediums that work best for their own
artistic interests. Kelsey is passionate for teaching healing through the arts, many projects she does with her students, as well as her own work focus on building identity of the artists and using artistic materials to work through intense emotions.
