Biography
Christina (Chrissy T) Turner is a Columbus-based professional performing artist, educator, and multi-creative who received a Bachelors’ in Arts from Central State University in Vocal Music Performance. She’s performed locally, nationally, and internationally; her vocal style transcends beyond her classical training as her background is in multiple genres such as musical theater, jazz, soul, pop, and gospel music. She performs consistently with the corporate band “BlueWater Kings.”
Chrissy became a member of the International Thespian Society in 2004, where she began her acting career. For over two decades, Chrissy has been active in numerous regional theater communities receiving awards such as the 2022 Jebby Award for Best Lead Female in a Musical for her role as Amelia in “Ain’t Misbehavin” at Trinity Theater Company, and the 2022 Kingdom Image Award for Best Drama Performance for her role as Mother Superior in “Sister Act: The Musical” at Short North Theater.
Chrissy is also an educator; for well over a decade she has taught performing arts, motivating and nurturing young artists’ gifts and talents. She began her teaching career in private schools, and eventually migrated to teaching music in Columbus City Schools; she also taught private lessons to teens and young adults. At Mansion Day School she developed an after-school workshop series for students who were interested in musical theater. In addition to teaching, she began directing stage productions at schools within her local communities. Thereafter, Chrissy has continued to educate outside of classroom teaching with teaching performing arts in workshops such as Columbus Children’s Theater, Columbus City Schools Summer Experience, and Lincoln Theatre’s Patternz Summer Camp. In 2022, Chrissy received a Teaching Artist Certificate through Kadenze Academy.
Chrissy is currently an Artist-in-Residence & Education Coordinator with Columbus Children’s Theatre. She’s taught, directed, and/or produced programs such as the “Child Writing Project” and “Storybook Adventures” where she has helped children develop and enhance their ELA skills as well boost creativity and confidence.
Chrissy T.’s purpose is to help inspire others through the arts to reach their fullest potential in creative exploration, expression, and authenticity.
RECENT PROJECTS: “Columbus Children’s Theatre’s The Child Writing Project”, Columbus School For Girls (Columbus), 4th grade, 6 week residency: Students develop their original stories into theatrical pieces. The project fosters creativity, improves writing skills, and boosts confidence as students envision their ideas from story to stage!
“Storybook Adventures”, Central Ohio Libraries, monthly program for ages 0-5: A theatrical performance of classic children’s literature including interactive dramatic activities.
