BalletMet’s Education and Community Engagement programs positively affect the lives of children and adults throughout Central Ohio. The organization makes available to a large and diverse population the opportunity to learn about dance as a viable subject for intellectual growth, health and well-being, social development, and lifelong learning. Utpola Borah, Ph.D., is an ethnomusicologist, music educator, cultural archivist, and North Indian classical vocalist. She has been performing diverse North Indian classical vocal genres as well as regional folk songs for several years in the United States and India. Utpola’s vocal artistry is founded on her extensive study with the renowned North Indian classical legends, Padmashri (Dr.) Prabha Atre, Vidushi Malashri Prasad, Pandit Indralal Dhanda, Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, and Ustad Ballu Khan Warsi of Kirana, Banaras, Udaipur, and Delhi gharanas (traditions). Augusto C. Bordelois (Havana, Cuba, 1969) graduated from the University of Havana with a major in English language and literature. He has also studied sculpture, ceramics, costume design for theatre and cinema, classical drawing, and painting. His visual artwork has been awarded much recognition in Cuba as well as in competitions in the United States. He has participated in more than 130 national and international group shows and 34 solo exhibitions. Many of his works are in private collections around the world. His work is also part of the permanent collection of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University (CSU), University Hospitals, and the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve.…
Terry Boyarsky, pianist, is a movement specialist, singer, and ethnomusicologist who believes that every person is musical. Her search for musical collaboration has led her into chamber music, choral singing, folk dance, coaching, accompanying dance, and creating ceremony.
Terry holds a BA in experimental psychology from Reed College, a BM in eurhythmics from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and an MA in ethnomusicology from Kent State University. Terry has taught and created events for institutions such as the Dalcroze Society of America; American Orff-Schulwerk Society; Society for Ethnomusicology; the Cleveland Institute of Music; University of Hawaii; Rowe Center in Massachusetts; Kasetsat University in Bangkok, Thailand; Los Hipocampitos in Carrizal, Venezuela; Bard College Conservatory of Music; and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.…

Sogbety Diomande, (Sow-beh-tea Gee-oh-mahn-day) was born in the village of Toufinga, a small farming community located in the northwest region of the Ivory Coast near the border of Guinea in Africa. He is a professional drummer and dancer and has been performing since he was a child. He has been a member of Ballet National de Cote d’Ivoire and Kotchegna Dance Company, and he has been featured with many troupes in New York City and around the U.S. Sogbety spends most of his time performing solo and conducting workshops in schools, libraries, festivals, and community events all over Ohio and surrounding areas.…
Tom Evert has been a creative force in creating and performing original choreographic works with a company of dancers, working intensively in arts-education programming and creating festival-like community events in Ohio for 33 years.
Tom currently serves as artistic director of DANCE EVERT, which he founded in 1986. He holds BFAs in both painting and dance from Ohio University and has enjoyed a world-class touring career with the Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York City. He has created a major body of work for which he has received eight Individual Excellence Awards in choreography.…

Heavily influenced during the early part of her artist career by the work of Romare Bearden, Wendy Kendrick has applied her years of work with collage and mixed media to her current work with quilted portrait masks. In 2010, Wendy was selected by the Arts Council Lake Erie West to travel to the East African country of Tanzania as a U.S. delegate for a women’s artist exchange. In addition, she was invited to speak to college students regarding her artistic journey at the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
Wendy received her BA in visual studies from Dartmouth College and has furthered her studies through additional coursework taken at the Dayton Art Institute, Columbus College of Art and Design, and Quilt Surface Design Symposium.…
Sara Lawrence-Sucato, from Columbus, OH, graduated with honors from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, with a degree in dance and is currently working in Cleveland, OH. She is the Dancing Wheels Company and School’s director of outreach and community engagement, rehearsal director, a 10-year-plus company member, and served as the company’s tour manager for over a decade. During her professional performance career with the Dancing Wheels Company, Sara has performed works by noted choreographers Marc Brew, Nai Ni Chen, David Dorfman, Christopher Fleming, Catherine Meredith, Stuart Pimsler, David Rousseve, Ginger Thatcher, Michael Uthoff, and Robert Wesner, as well as by internationally renowned choreographers Donald McKayle and Dianne McIntyre.…

Ray McNiece is the author of eight books of poems and monologues, most recently Breath Burns Away, New Haiku. He has created two solo theatre works: Dis – Voices From a Shelter and Us? Talking Across America; two music/poetry collaborations: “Mouth Music” and “A Rust bowl Hootenanny;” and an autobiography on stage: The Lives of A Poet. Sarah Morrison began her professional career at the age of sixteen with Lee Harper & Dancers (Atlanta, GA). She relocated to Cleveland upon receiving the Creative Achievement Award for choreography to attend Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). At CWRU, she earned her BA in Theater Arts and Psychology (minoring in Biology), as well as her MA in Psychology. While establishing her dance company, Morrison worked as a behavioral researcher in the Visual Perception lab at CWRU, where she co-authored several scientific papers funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
An avid collaborator, Morrison has cultivated partnerships with some of the area’s most fascinating artists and organizations including NASA, BrainMaster, moCa, and Ingenuity Cleveland.…
