Shannon Timura

Shannon Timura is a mixed media artist and storyteller who specializes in bringing creativity into community spaces. Specializing in incorporating textile arts with science, technology, math and leading collaborative projects.

Shannon’s workshops are known for their warmth, curiosity, and the way they empower participants to tell their own stories – visually, verbally, and collaboratively.

She has run art workshops in small, traditional classroom settings, homeless shelters, corporate offices, libraries, malls and largescale public events throughout Ohio. Currently she is partnering with the University of Akron Field Station to offer nature inspired creative art workshops as well as providing classes and camps with BayArts, Upcycle Parts Shop and her own workshops through Art Dock.

Shannon’s disciplines include sculpture, collage, fiber arts and kinetic art, but her main skill is that she is able to creatively use whatever supplies are available. She adapts well to any age group and learning ability and loves to surprise participants in her workshops with their own ability and creativity.

RECENT PROJECTS: “Needle Felting Workshop,” University of Akron Field Station, (Bath). Teens and adults. Using guidebooks of birds, participants created bird sculptures using wool and needle felting tools. Naturalist gave a talk on birds of the region during our activity.

“Intro to Weaving,” University of Akron, (Akron), teens and adults. Using donated yarn, participants created cloud weaving wall hangings, sessions were held on campus as well as at the University of Akron Station nd open to the public.

“Fairy Camp,” Cottell Park (Mason), preschool to 1st grade, week-long summer camp. Participants created fairy houses, mixed media collages, did printing activities, and had an art show for families and friends at the end of the week.
